Sr. Application Support Engineer - (Financial Services/Banking Environment)

As a Barclays Senior Application Support Engineer – (Financial Services/Banking Environment), you’ll use a hybrid of development and operate skills to collaborate across disciplines, applying software engineering principles to eliminate repeated manual effort (Toil) and create automated, scalable, and reliable services. For this role, you’ll contribute key initiatives on Operational engineering, Observability engineering, Service Risk engineering and Resiliency engineering to ensure production stability and SLA adherence to our data consumers.

What will you be doing?

• Establishing engineering discipline within IB Front Office Risk & Pricing and data GTSM and drive the agenda throughout the department whilst backing the wider team objectives
• Reducing MTTR throughout the department (Mean Time to Repair) and improve stability
• Driving excellence at all we do and driving this mindset throughout the department – making everything we touch better
• Navigating the Full Stack Observability throughout the department and role model how this can be used to achieve our objectives and reduce MTTR
• Directing the adoption of Automation and role model how this can be used to drive efficiencies, consistency, reduce MTTR and achieve our objectives
• Providing technical excellence and accountability/ownership of the full stack that makes up our services

What we’re looking for:

• Practical experience of assisting with and maintaining production environments with distributed systems and highly available services
• Working knowledge of IT Infrastructure components (for example Linux or Windows Server OS, MS SQL or Oracle Databases, Networks, Load Balancers, Storage, middleware - solace)
• Familiarity with Observability/Monitoring solutions (such as AppDynamics, Thousand Eyes, Splunk, ELK/elastic or similar)
• Solid grasp of programming languages like Java, .net, python and of CI/CD Pipelines and Repositories, for example Jenkins and GitHub

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Experience of working in either a SRE or DevOps model would be desirable, however it is also great if you don’t have experience but do have a passion and a solid grasp of the matter
• Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals
• Working knowledge of Investment Banking and how different business work
• Understanding of software skills such as design, development, maintenance, testing and software improvement
