Seneca's hiring a Special Education Teacher to provide multi-grade, standards-based instruction and academic interventions to grades 5-12 students at James Baldwin Academy in San Leandro, CA. Our Special Education Teachers ensure students’ needs are met within the guidelines of the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) and the Treatment Plan, and they foster successful environments where students' strengths are celebrated and their needs addressed with a variety of targeted interventions. As a teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with School Therapists, Classroom Counselors, and Educational Leadership to transform education into a model that connects diverse students to therapeutic services, community resources, and an outstanding academic curriculum.

• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to implement academic, behavioral, and therapeutic services for special education students with emotional disturbances
• Use backwards design principles to deliver a differentiated curriculum, rooted in state content standards
• Use student-centered instructional methods as defined by the school's Learning Principles
• Employ authentic and norm-referenced assessment strategies to monitor progress and guide instructional planning and decision making
• Provide individualized academic intervention programs to target at-risk learners
• Engage caregivers in the educational process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs
• Co-lead the classroom team to maintain a structured therapeutic learning environment based on Seneca's philosophy

• Bachelor’s degree and Special Education Teaching Credential
  • Current enrollment in a Special Education credential program may suffice
  • Current California Education Specialist Credential may also suffice
• Current California Mild or Moderate Specialist Credential OR currently enrolled in a credential program
• TB test clearance, fingerprints, and COVID-19 vaccination
• Demonstrated interest in Special Education

• Starting at $66,000-84,000 per year, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
