Salary: $68,549 to $90,000

The Government and Community Relations (GCR) office builds relationships with community leaders, elected officials, government agencies and third-party advocates to further the mission of UC Berkeley in the public sector. The issues of primary focus for the GCR team include student financial aid, admissions, scientific research and other policies at the forefront of higher education and government. GCR also coordinates the University's response to a wide range of political and policy issues, and advis es administrators and faculty on strategies to gain constructive dialogue with government and community leaders.

The University of California adopts as a fundamental value, and priority, the repatriation of Native American and Native Hawaiian human remains and cultural items (funerary objects, sacred objects and objects of cultural patrimony), in accordance with state and federal law. Reporting to the Assistant Chancellor for GCR, the UC Berkeley NAGPRA team is charged with facilitating outreach to, and consultation with Native American and Native Hawaiian tribes to facilitate the timely repatriation of ancestors and cultural objects currently held by the university, in compliance with state and federal law and UC policy.
