Behavioral Health Nurse Manager*
Job description
The Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is recruiting for a Behavioral Health Nurse Manager* who will supervise a staff of Mental Health Nurses, paraprofessional, and related support staff assigned to a behavioral health unit. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide leadership and direction in the planning, implementation and monitoring of the expansion of the nursing program which will include supervision of Nurse supervisors.
- Coordination of clinic nursing services including supervision of clinic nursing staff in an outpatient mental health care setting: RN's, LVN's, LPT's, and Care Assistants.
- Promote educational and professional development of nursing staff by reviewing training needs and coordinating the provision of trainings, orientations and in-service updates and annual skills fair.
- Establish standards of excellence in nursing clinical care services through planning, monitoring and evaluating performance improvement to ensure quality of care.
- Identify nursing policies and procedures needed to facilitate the standardization of clinic practices.
- Serve as a liaison to bring nursing issues to the attention of the Medical Director and the Executive Team.
- Monitor compliance with standards of external regulatory agencies and make recommendations for necessary improvements within the Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders and Recovery Systems of Care.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation, which includes DOJ LiveScan fingerprinting, verification of employment history and education, and physical exam. Work Schedule: 5/8 or 9/80 after probation with weekends and County holidays off. Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for transportation. Mileage reimbursement is available. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.
Candidates must meet one of the following options:
Option 1:
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
License: Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support certification.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse -AND- two (2) years of experience as a full-scope supervisor overseeing licensed nursing staff (qualifying supervisory experience includes hiring, counseling, disciplinary actions including termination, assigning work, completing work performance evaluations, developing work schedules and approving time off). Supervisory experience gained concurrently with nursing experience is acceptable.
Option 2:
Education: An Associate's degree in Nursing (ASN).
License: Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support certification.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse -AND- three (3) years of experience as a full-scope supervisor overseeing licensed nursing staff (qualifying supervisory experience includes hiring, counseling, disciplinary actions including termination, assigning work, completing work performance evaluations, developing work schedules and approving time off). Supervisory experience gained concurrently with nursing experience is acceptable.
Option 3:
License: Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support certification.
Experience: Seven (7) years of experience as a registered nurse -AND- four (4) years of experience as a full-scope supervisor overseeing licensed nursing staff (qualifying supervisory experience includes hiring, firing, counseling, disciplinary actions, assigning work, completing work performance evaluations, developing work schedules and approving time off). Supervisory experience gained concurrently with nursing experience is acceptable.
