Job Title: Assistant Marina Manager

FLSA Classification: Nonexempt (Hourly)

Salary Range: $20- $26, per hour

Reports to: Marina Manager

Summary/Objective: The Assistant Marina is responsible for working with the Marina Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of the marina. The Assistant Marina Manager is responsible for maintaining the highest level of customer service and appearance for the facility and its staff. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the following in the absence of the Marina Manager: fuel dock and ships store sales, transient slip reservations and placement, staff management, customer communication and conflict resolution, and emergency preparedness and response.

  • Greet each guest, enthusiastically and with a smile to create a friendly and positive experience. Strive to delight the customer.
  • Ensure transient stays are well managed and meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Take transient reservations by phone and online form (Dockwa) and assign transient slips to maximize potential revenue.
  • Answer phone calls, VHF radio calls, and emails with the appropriate greeting in a professional and timely manner.
  • Dispense gasoline and diesel fuel and operate pump out system.
  • Monitor fuel inventory, order as required.
  • Communicate directions clearly and effectively on the VHF radio.
  • Direct vessels to slips, assist with tying up and hooking up of utilities.
  • Monitor vessels in marina for safe and proper tie-up and utility connection.
  • In the event of an emergency, the Assistant Marina Manager may be required to board vessel in order to assist the owners or secure the vessel.
  • Report and address safety, security, and liability concerns as soon as possible. These include but are not limited to lighting issues, gate and camera failures, trip hazards, fire hazards, and oil/fuel spills.
  • Report all maintenance and safety related problems to the Marina Manager for repairs.
  • Partner with repairs and maintenance workers to repair and maintain docks
  • Maintain marina in a clean, neat, and safe manner.
  • Assist with implementation of special events.
  • Utilize computer system for reservations, sales, weather updates, and basic accounting reports.
  • Use point of sale system to complete sales; perform mathematical calculations and closing out register and balancing at the end of the shift.
  • Inventory and maintain emergency equipment.
  • As needed in the aftermath of an emergency, follow with insurance, management, customers, and law enforcement.
  • Operate the marina in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Report all unauthorized use of docks to Marina Manager for action.
  • Be fully aware of and comply with Resorts policies and procedures as identified in the procedure manual and handbook.
  • Make customers feel important, valued, and appreciated in a manner that will be acknowledged by the customers.
  • Available to workdays, evenings (typically until sunset), weekends, holidays and extended hours as business dictates.

Supervisory Essential Duties

  • Supervise and direct the dock attendants.
  • Monitor staff performance in all phases of service and job functions
  • Assist in the interviewing, scheduling, training, empowering, coaching and counseling, and problem resolution. Provide open communication and recommend discipline and termination, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills within the department, ensuring all marina employees follow company procedures and standards and continuously provide a superior level of service and skill.

Work environment

  • Working conditions are based in a hospitality setting.
  • Associates may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
  • Exposure to cleaning solvents, chemicals, fuel

Physical demands

  • To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to and will regularly, stand, move, walk and run throughout the marina and property, including walking up to 1 mile, climbing stairs, ride a bicycle, and swim in case of an accident. Must also be able to move around the area, navigating over unleveled ground, off and on docks and on all building levels.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; run; sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • The associate must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Required education and experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School or GED
  • A minimum of two years marina/boating experience
  • General marine practices and boat handling
  • Ability to swim in case of emergency or accident
