Working Superintendent - Home Remodeling
Job description
Hands-on Lead Carpenter position: Managing remodeling projects from start to finish, while doing hands-on physical work to keep the job moving forward. Must have 5 years of residential remodeling experience, a good attitude, attention to detail, and respect.
We are in rebuilding mode and looking for our next "John"; are you him/her? What made John so successful?
- John was a great communicator who kept the homeowners up to date on what was happening on their project, as well as keeping the office up to date.
- John had respect for everyone he encountered. Whether it be a homeowner, or neighbor, or fellow employee, company owners, or subcontractors.
- John would remain in constant contact with subcontractors to confirm scheduling in advance. He'd remind them of upcoming scheduling 3 weeks, 2 weeks, and 1 week in advance to ensure our projects would be taken care of as scheduled.
- John had attention to detail, and had the ability to read and understand the construction plans to minimize the possibility of mistakes.
- John posted thorough daily logs, notes, and pictures to document progress on each project.
- John discussed and processed change orders for approval before any additional work was performed.
- John completed work at a high level of proficiency, and to an elevated quality standard. His strong skills were finish/trim carpentry, cabinet installations, minor framing, minor plumbing & electrical, and had a good overall knowledge of all construction trades.
- John sought out additional subcontractors to grow our stable of quality trade partners.
- John had good time management, which created the possibility to run multiple projects simultaneously.
- John held himself, and others, accountable. One example: John accidently broke a homeowners ceiling fan blade, which had since been discontinued; so he offered to replace the entire fan out of his own pocket.
So what happened to John? When COVID was at it's worst, John decided to take a work from home job and has not returned to the construction trades.
