50 ton or more USCG licensed Master wanted for seasonal position. Full/Part Time Position available 5/1/23 through 10/8/23. Approx 30 hrs per week. Additional time aboard other smaller vessels available.
The Historic Humboldt Bay Harbor Cruise Boat MADAKET is looking for Full and Part-Time CG certified Captains for the 2023 cruise season. This is a rare opportunity to captain the oldest passenger carrying vessel in continuous service in the United States! This job can either be full or part time. Fun job, great boat!
42 passenger USCG Certified/Inspected Inland Waters tour vessel.
Qualifications:
- USCG Master License –50 tons or greater
- Able to maneuver single screw vessel in any situation
- Able to turn a chain driven traditional spoke wheel
- Have full range of motion of upper body (including wrist, elbows, shoulders)
- Able to stand for over 8 hrs
- TWIC
- FCC operators permit (will get you up to date if needed)
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED (will get you up to date if needed)
- Basic Computer Skills
Basic Captains Duties :
- Overall safety of the vessel, passengers and crew
- General vessel paperwork
- Fueling of the vessel and pumping grey holding tank
- Learn and deliver vessels historic narration
- General upkeep of engine room and engine fluids
- Effectively communicate with passengers-greet guests, set the tone for the cruise
- Effectively communicate and work as a team player with crew and management
- Supervise passenger boarding/disembarking procedures and requirements
- Engine room checks
- Oversee crew in housekeeping chores and maintenance projects
- Oversee and Perform required safety drills and monthly equipment tests

Typical Vessel Works Hours:
Tues.-Saturday 12-7pm, Sun.10 am -5:30 pm, Mon. 12-4pm, (Not including private charters, special event cruises or maintenance). Vessel operates daily, hours and work days will vary upon your desire to work and availability of relief captains.
