Job description

The position is responsible for providing leadership, ensuring safety of all participants and direct supervision of children in all planned activities. To act as a role model and mentor and encourage constructive participation in all daily activities. Counselors will work closely with the Director of Auxiliary Programs and Assistant Director of Summer Day Camp to ensure program goals are being attained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality children’s program.
  • Adhere to policies as stated in the Bancroft Summer Policies and Procedures Manual and in subsequent Bancroft Summer trainings and meetings. Participation in in-service training is required prior to the start of camp.
  • Establish relationships with each child, demonstrating positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect.
  • Provide leadership and actively participate in the implementation of daily activities with enthusiasm. Participation in daily swim activities required.
  • Ensure children are aware of and properly adhere to rules and daily scheduled routines.
  • Direct or assist in the daily maintenance of the program areas, ensuring safety and cleanliness. Take responsibility for the quality of supplies, equipment and materials. Assume equal share of the regular housekeeping duties to include cleaning, preparing for daily activities and cleaning up after projects.
  • Keep a consistent headcount on all children present; communicate changes with all other staff.
  • Remain up to date and comply with all emergency procedures appropriate to program areas and in conformity with procedures adopted by emergency service authorities to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
  • Report all accidents and/or behavioral incidents to the Assistant Director of Summer Camp. Complete all associated paperwork properly.
  • Report all suspicions of child abuse/neglect to the proper authorities.
  • Work toward positive parent/staff relations by greeting and recognizing families at pick-up and drop off.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the Bancroft Summer team.
  • Complete all required paperwork.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Experience:

  • childcare or camp: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
  • CPR Certification (Preferred)
