Ready to apply? We currently have an opportunity for a Sr. Merchant, Swim & Sleep - Cacique to join our team located at our LB OH Corp Office-LaneBryant-New Albany, OH 43054.
Position Overview:
The Sr. Merchant is responsible for creating and leading the execution of the merchandise strategy for a subset of the brand in the long and short term. Strategy is created by using the inputs of brand positioning, customer insights, competitive and market intelligence, and trend. Collaborates cross-functionally to bring product to market. Owns maximizing business and minimizing risk in season.
Business Management:
-
Responsible for creating and delivering a balanced assortment that meets customer needs and financial targets.

Manages in-season business by tracking and analyzing sales information to identify opportunities to increase sales, improve margins, maximize inventories and decrease markdowns.

Collaborates with Production team on vendor resources, calendar, and costing strategies.

Manages development process ensuring product development process supports on time delivery. Identifies challenges and partners with cross functional partners to address, or elevates to leadership in timely manner.

Works cross functionally with planning, product development, and design to ensure the on time and accurate delivery of all products (WIP, CFT, etc.).

Responsible for the development and growth of junior merchant team in order to build bench strength for future team growth.

Follows recommendations through quickly and with sense of ownership.
Cross Functional Support of Product Execution:

Partner with Visual on floor set placement of product to insure that all styles are represented and volume and fashion projection objectives are met.

Partner with marketing on strategies that support the key initiatives including product introductions.

Collaborate with Planning partners on vendor projections to ensure accurate forecasts by style are captured.

Review seasonal plans monthly for MPC to identify business risk/upside and build recommendations to solve.
Assortment Development:

Partner with GMM / MM and Design to develop 3-5 year product growth/maintenance strategies that meet brand growth initiatives and financial targets thru key vertical milestone meetings.

Partner with Planning on Style and Choice Count needs for each season.

Partner with Planning and Allocation on promotional cadence, flow order, color/size buys, minimum /maximum quantities, etc.

Review and manage final e-Form ensuring assortment rolls to financial targets.

Responsible for implementing a balanced assortment achieved thru product distortion, fashion offering, and retail architecture.
Business Operations:
- Responsible for clearly cascading strategy, execution needs, and regular business critical updates to ensure timely implementation.
- Needs to collaborate with peers managing other channels within the business, i.e. online and Outlet teams, to ensure strategies align and executive vision is met.
- Responsible for receipt management, identifying delivery risks/changes and presents solutions/plans to mitigate risk.
- Executes monthly, quarterly, and launch hindsighting to leverage for future strategies.
- Collaborates with management to ensure current processes maintain efficiencies for cross-functional teams, eliminating duplicative work streams, and increasing overall productivity within the work place.
Competitive Intelligence:

Patterns competitors and fashion leaders to understand how they are projecting their brand. Focuses on overall assortment, fashion offering, pricing/promotional cadence, and presentations. Reports on and uses findings/information in season and future line planning.

Supports the GMM / MM in developing a line that represents the brand through competitive intelligence, client insights, and business analysis.
Customer Insights:

Provide the voice of the customer.

Research and anticipate what the customer wants next and why.

Gather information from working with customers in stores, trend information and historical knowledge
Work Experience and Education Requirements:
-
8+ years of experience in a merchandising related position for a fashion retailer.
-
Bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising, retail management or business related field preferred.

Proficient in Word, Excel and Power Point, and Outlook. Microstrategy and FlexPLM preferred.

Ability to teach and develop talent.
