Overview:Genesee Lake School (now 100% employee owned!) is seeking a Cross Categorical Special Education Teacher for children and young adults with autism, neurological, emotional and/or developmental disabilities in a therapeutic school environment. We have received the National Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) award for three consecutive years. Our 160-acre campus in the countryside near Oconomowoc provides an ideal setting for our students to learn, develop and achieve their potential. Responsibilities:

• To succeed in this role, you must show an understanding of the emotional and developmental disabilities of the people you serve. In addition, you must have knowledge and experience with transition services, a basic understanding of transition law, transition service requirements, and implementation strategies.When you join our team, you will be enrolled in our training program designed to build the skills and confidence needed to meet your job requirements and build your career with us. This particular position is teaching at our off campus location 1 mile from the downtown Oconomowoc area.

As a Special Education Teacher, you will:
Provide individualized education and engage students in active learning
Facilitate IEP meetings and serve as case manager of the IEP for students under your direct charge
Update Progress Reports in accordance with the trimester marking period
Ensure that classroom environment and activities are conducive to students' development of independence, competence, and sense of self-worth
Incorporate thematic teaching units in the curriculum
Assign and supervise specific teaching and classroom tasks to Instructional Aides and classroom support staff
Collaborate with various departments and programs to discuss implementing treatment plans within the academic setting
Use Agency-approved treatment techniques in supervising and educating students
Demonstrate flexibility in meeting changing student needs
Utilize a workshop approach, incorporating elements of direct instruction, independent work time, learning games, etc.
Teach a caseload with 10-12 students
This position will focus on working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Qualifications:

• All eligible candidates will be 21 or older

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Certified by the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as a general education teacher or in the special education fields of Cross Categorical, EBD, LD, CD, or related field
Certified for the academic level of functioning and classes taught
Experience in working with students with autism, emotional disabilities, or intellectual disabilities is preferred
Experience working within a life skills and/or adaptive education transition program is preferred
Ability to organize and delegate responsibilities to classroom staff
Demonstrates an ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems
Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control
Co-teaching experiences are preferred
