We have an immediate opportunity for a Physical Therapy Assistant.

General Summary: The Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant/Physical Therapy Assistant (LPTA/PTA) assists the physical therapist in various types of treatment and transports, as well as administering, monitoring and documenting patient care. The LPTA/PTA is active in department activities, transdisciplinary team activities, and LifeCare activities to ensure individualized, patient-centered health care for all patient populations admitted to LifeCare Hospital.

Essential Functions:

  • Implements treatment plans in a safe and supportive manner, designed to help patients function independently under the supervision of the Physical Therapist.
  • Communicates frequently with the Physical Therapist and other Transdisciplinary team members on patient performance, progress, and any changes in patient condition. Makes recommendations to PT to alter patient treatment plans to achieve maximum benefit. Interacts with the patient regarding condition, progress and/or achievement of goals during each treatment session.
  • Ensures patient safety at all times by observing and noting any risk factors; initiating and maintaining appropriate safety measures; and, notifying the Physical Therapist, assigned nurse, or nursing supervisor.
  • Accurately completes and documents all treatment procedures and functional mobility tasks in a timely manner. Responds appropriately to acute changes in patient condition.
  • Provides education on selected treatment procedures and functional activities to patients, their families, and other healthcare providers
  • Plans/organizes work to maintain caseload, effectively schedules patient treatment sessions and maintains patient records and charges. Ensures that equipment is maintained and is in clean and working order. Reports equipment maintenance and/or repair in a timely manner.
  • The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the position requirements are demonstrated through the successful completion of competencies established for the position, to include population served, and other special needs of patients or customers served by the department.
  • Adheres to LifeCare policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness is required.

Requirements

Experience: Two years of experience in an acute care or LTACH setting is preferred.

Education: Associate’s degree from an accredited physical therapy assistant school is required.

Licensure/Certification: Current LPTA certification in the state where practicing if required. Current BLS certification is required. All LPTA/PTAs must maintain current certification, if required by State, and BLS certification while employed with LifeCare Hospitals.
