Summary: Academy of the Sacred Heart is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Upper School Theology Teacher. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools as articulated in the Network of Sacred Heart School's Educational Philosophy is essential.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Teaching courses to include, but not limited to, Elements of Faith and Scripture, World Religions, Catholic Social Teaching: Living Justice and Peace, and Spiritual Crossroads.
- Provide campus ministry support, including retreats, prayer services and liturgies, in collaboration with Campus Minister.
- Collaborate with members of the Theology department to share best practices, plan active lessons, and create instructional aids.
- Exemplify commitment to the spiritual life through daily personal prayer as well as frequent participation in the Sacraments; and will be able to model, teach, and form the same in their students.
- Attend department and faculty meetings.
- Fulfill advisory duties.
- Communicate with families through email, phone, and conferences.
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in support of teacher growth in teaching and learning.
- Support students and division by covering for emergency classroom coverage, other assignments as needed.
Basic requirements include but are not limited to:
- Candidates must be Roman Catholic.
- MA degree in Religious Studies or Theology preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the high school level.
- Knowledge of Catholic Church teachings and USCCB guidelines.
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communications skills.
- Positive team player with a desire to contribute and share your gifts and talents with the students and administration of the school.
- A desire to seek out professional development activities related to the latest instructional strategies, student growth and best pedagogical practices.
- Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart community.
- Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic programs.
- Commit to addressing social justice, diversity and equity in the curriculum through lessons, actions, and discussions.
- Proficiency and adaptability with instructional technology.
- Develop lesson plans and select learning material and resources that will help achieve curriculum objectives.
- Monitor student progress and shift expectations to promote academic growth.
