Job description
Under the general direction of the Financial Aid Supervisor, the Financial Aid Advisor provides information and advising to students and parents regarding all aspects of financial aid, including the financial aid application and delivery system, federal, state, and university financial aid programs, financial aid notifications, billing and receivables and the Direct Loan Program. Advise students and parents on budgeting, maintaining eligibility, enrollment and other financial aid questions and campus programs. Work closely with Admissions, Registrar's, Academic Counseling, Housing, Summer Session and Student Accounts to resolve student inquires. Using federal methodology, perform simple needs analysis in order to award and revise students financial aid packages. Exercise professional judgment as allowed under federal regulations in order to process add-on requests and petitions for re-evaluation. Special program responsibilities include the management of one or more special programs requiring specialized knowledge of the program structure and coordination with various entities including other campus departments. Provide prompt customer service response to heavy telephone and messaging services. Receive, review and track a high volume of all incoming financial aid documents and routing through appropriate work-flow for processing using regulations and guidelines to enter financial aid document status into the Financial Aid Management (FAM) system. Assist with outreach information fairs for entering and continuing students and families.Percentage of Time:

Required/Preferred
Working knowledge of Federal Methodology pertaining to financial aid.
Required
Working knowledge of federal, state and university policies in order to answer student inquiries about financial aid programs.
Required
Ability to analyze information, problems or situations to define the problem, formulate accurate and objective resolutions based on knowledge of financial aid policies.
Required
Experience with the Financial Aid Management (FAM) system, Student Records System (SRS), Report Distribution System (RDS) and the Billing and Receivable (BAR) system used for accessing student data.
Preferred
Familiarity with the Financial Aid Office Intranet system that houses student data and is used for processing and revising financial aid awards.

Ability to perform mathmatical calculations used in processing financial aid awards.

Ability to understand complex federal tax returns used in the verification process.

General knowledge of departments and offices of the University, their functions, policies and procedures to make student referrals.

Ability to utilize a multitude of financial aid processing resources including National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Financial Aid Administrator Access to the Central Processing System (CPS), OpenNet Web Loan Delivery System and the Department of Education's Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) web based system.

Ability to effectively use a personal computer for all desktop applications including knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications; Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher.
Required
Experience working in a financial aid office environment in a university of college setting for a least one year.
Preferred
Ability to accurately process/review large volume of documents during heavy work load periods while responding to changing deadlines.
