Job Title: Facilitator/Meeting Organizer/Agenda Lead
Job Summary:

  • FAR Group is seeking a facilitator for the Southwest Colorado Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program’s (CFLRP) governance group to facilitate open, inclusive meetings for the beneficiaries of The San Juan National Forest. CFLRP’s governance group is comprised of the Coordinating Council and six standing committees that work to inform, assess, share, support, and celebrate the work of the CFLRP.

Technical Requirements / Tasks:
The Coordinating Council and the Projects and Places Committees each meet monthly with an average meeting length of two hours. Occasionally, the Coordinating Council may need to meet more than once per month. Full Stakeholder meetings are held annually at a minimum, though the number of full stakeholder meetings may range from 1-4 a year. Full stakeholder meetings are typically full day meetings. Other governance committee meetings vary in frequency and length.

  • 12 Coordinating Council meetings – 2 hours in length approximately
  • 12 Projects and Places meetings– 2 hours in length approximately.
  • 3 ad hoc meetings (committee facilitation upon request)– 2 hours in length approximately

Standard Duties:

The CFLRP facilitator will organize, facilitate, and document meetings of the Coordinating Council, Full Stakeholder meetings, and Projects and Places Committee meetings for at least one year. Other committee chairs may request facilitation support if needed; these requests are submitted to the Coordinating Council. This additional facilitation support will be limited to a total of three meetings over the course of the contract year. The facilitator will work with committee chairs to develop agendas for committee meetings. Committee chairs will not participate in running meetings if the facilitator is facilitating.

The facilitator will be expected to produce meeting notes and action items in a timely fashion, which should be circulated within the meeting group as well as shared with the Communications Subcommittee to be uploaded to the CFLRP website or made available to stakeholders via another web-based platform

Basic duties include:

  • Arrange meeting locations. All meetings will be located in the greater Durango area
  • Announce meeting dates and times
  • Set up and moderate online and in-person meetings as necessary
  • Develop meeting agendas with participants
  • Open and facilitate all meetings
  • Employ existing and develop any necessary new rules of discussion and means of seeking agreement
  • and hold participants to these rules and means
  • Review/highlight rules of discussion and means of seeking agreement at each meeting
  • Encourage participation by everyone on the Council, committee, or at a large stakeholder meeting
  • Employ conflict resolution methods as necessary
  • Ensure points of agreement/disagreement are accurately captured and clearly documented
  • Manage and facilitate the flow of work so tangible outcomes are produced in accordance with deadlines determined by the group
  • Ensure meeting notes and agendas are developed and made available in a timely manner and that they are accurate and complete are accurate and complete

Facilitator Required Qualifications:

  • Facilitation training and experience
  • Experience working with large, diverse groups tackling challenging topics and that experience disagreement and/or conflict
  • Mediation/conflict resolution training and experience
  • Neutrality (the facilitator does not stand to gain or lose from the outcome of processes, recommendations, and conversations they facilitate)
  • Organized
  • Excellent communication skills

Ability to hold working groups and individuals accountable in and between meetings

Requirements and Qualifications:

All meeting will be held in the greater Durango area. Travel to and from the meetings will be the responsibility of the candidate.

  • Experience working with natural resources/forestry/watershed initiatives and projects, particularly with CFLRPs
  • Familiarity with NEPA processes
  • Locally or regionally based
  • Skilled in innovative collaborative process methodology and techniques
  • Experience with the latest communication tools and digital platforms
