District Homeless Liaison and Outreach Assistant
Purpose Statement
The District Homeless Liaison and Outreach Assistant is responsible to assist in assuring that homeless/high mobile children are fully integrated into the mainstream school setting and offered appropriate educational support as authorized under the McKinney-Vento Act for Homeless Education. This position will also assist the district in bolstering communication to our parent community.
This job reports to both the District Homeless Coordinator and Communications Coordinator

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; community resources available to students; federal and state education programs; Knowledge of social media platforms and electronic content development applications; Knowledge of basic communication principals.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups in both English and Spanish; maintaining confidentiality; working as part of a team; and working with detailed information.

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a clean atmosphere.
Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Purpose Statement

Essential Functions
- Acts as a liaison between school district and parents/students for the purpose of facilitating access to resources.
- Ensures homeless children and youths are identified by school personnel through outreach and coordination with other agencies.
- Ensures Homeless children and youths are enrolled in, and have a full and equal opportunity to succeed in school.
- Assist ensuring homeless families, children, and youths receive referrals to health care services, dental services, mental health and substance abuse services, housing services, and other appropriate services.
- Inform the parents or guardians of homeless children and youths of the educational and related opportunities available to their children and are provided with meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.
- Ensure that the parent or guardian of a homeless child or youth, and any unaccompanied homeless youth, is fully informed of all transportation services, including transportation to the school of origin.
- Assist collecting data and keeping track of homeless students’ information.
- Assists with planning, organizing and developing district communication to boost parent awareness and engagement.
- Works with the school-based communication liaisons to support the communication and outreach efforts and goals for families.
- Assist in performing a wide variety of marketing and multimedia functions (e.g., website, social media, photography, videography, graphic design, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district communication and community parent engagement outcomes are achieved.
- Assists with managing and updating the District's web pages through the development of content; monitors and assists schools/departments with their web page information and design in order to enhance the parental online experience.
- Coordinates assigned projects and/or activities (e.g. presentations, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects and/or activities and/or directing services in a timely manner.
- Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. daily log of activities, program participation, referrals, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or documentation.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a variety of documents, reports and written materials for the purpose of communicating information to students, parents, and/or staff.
- Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
