Position Title: Coord, EMS

Department: EMS Education

Purpose: Coordinates emergency management system (EMS) activities initiated by Silvis Campus Administration, in collaboration with the EMS Medical Director. Key accountabilities include: supporting EMS staff competence and development; assisting with educational activities for the ambulance and Emergency Department staff; upholding regulatory standards of the Illinois Department of Public Health and other required agencies; ensuring adequate supplies, equipment and motor vehicles for emergency services; and serving as liaison with Black Hawk College for clinical and vehicular learning experiences.

Report To: Chief Nurse Officer

Supervisory Responsibility: Direction: The job requires some accountability for scheduling, assigning or coordinating work. Employees check the quality of work and provide guidance, instruction, training and direction to others. Although the job does not require formal or official supervisory responsibility, the incumbent serves as group leader or acts in an informal "assistant supervisory" or "lead" role. In addition, the employee may be expected to provide information or suggestions on human resources matters.

Materials Responsibility: Moderate: Work requires moderate responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include operating budgets for a work unit or department, specialized equipment, costly or unusual materials or supplies, large amounts of cash or other material assets. The employee has a moderate amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors might result in moderate damage, waste or financial loss. The difficulty, variety and depth of problems associated with these material resources is moderately complex.

POSITION SPECIFICATION

Education: Associate's Degree

Field Of Study: EMT-Paramedic

Special Training: ACLS Instructor; Basic Life Support Instructor; PALS Instructor; PHTLS/BTLS Instructor; Membership in Regional Emergency Medical Response Team

Training Preferred: Baccalaureate degree

Licensure/Registration: EMT-P,CCP in Illinois or RN in Illinois.

Experience: More than 3 years experience required.

Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others.

Working Conditions: There is limited exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks, and otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment. Personal risks require safety equipment or precautions to be followed closely but the time the employee may be exposed to these conditions is limited to 10% or less of the work day.
