WRC MISSION

The Workforce Resource Center will serve as a community resource and make continued education, job trainings and certification courses more accessible to people supported, all while helping people connect to their natural supports within their community.

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Director of Career Development is responsible for leading the Workforce Resource Center, a blended AHRCNYC program set to provide job training, educational and certification access to people with I/DD. With a primary focus on developing and facilitating innovative programming, the Director of Career Development collaborates internally and externally to strengthen community-based resources and increase person-centered supports, outcomes, and ensure sound fiscal performance. The Director of Career Development supervises all program staff and is responsible for actively maintaining high quality activities and experiences for people, through holistic and creative approaches.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Management

  • Develops and coordinates the implementation of innovative programming including flexible coursework, classes, and workshops that support peoples career interests and goals.
  • Establishes and periodically reevaluates the core curriculum of the WRC, including materials used by external instructors who provide classes and trainings for people supported.
  • Oversees career related services including course instruction, career counseling, person centered planning, help with job searches, assistance with employment applications, assessment tests, certifications and resume writing advice.

§ Monitors and maintains instructional quality through classroom observation and program assessment (outcomes, course materials, evaluations, enrollment, and overall course success).

  • Organizes events to bring the community together and help establish new employment opportunities for WRC members.
  • Responsible for identifying and communicating quality, budgetary, safety, and compliance-related concerns to the advisory leadership team.
  • Ensures adequate protection of each individual’s health, safety, comfort, well-being and civil, human, and legal rights.
  • Establish departmental policy and procedures in alignment with the agency mission.

Management of Services and Resources

  • Responsible for meeting enrollment targets through outreach, planning and development.
  • Management of individualized schedules, career plans and outcomes.
  • Oversees a diverse group of supervisors, instructors, and support staff to ensure quality service provision as it relates to career related goals.
  • Monitors budget performance and assumes responsibility for intakes, enrollments, and attendance.
  • Outsources for program supplies, technology needs and public speaking events.
  • Develops ongoing relationships with family members, guardians and/or residences as necessary and appropriate, coordinating meetings as needed.

Developing Staff and Teams

  • Ensures an equitable, inclusive and positive work environment and culture.
  • Assumes responsibility for the orientation of new staff and ensures that comprehensive training occurs. Encourages relevant and ongoing staff trainings.
  • Consult with staff on any concern and resolves problems that are individual/ jobsite related and provides staff with additional support and input. Coaches and mentors’ staff, overseeing all aspects of staff development.
  • Participates in local recruitment through community outreach and marketing.
  • Communicates regularly with program personnel about critical topics that impact the program’s ability to operate effectively and efficiently.

Community Outreach

  • Develops and maintains positive community relationships and represents the agency as a participating member of various industry committees, task forces or advocacy groups.
  • Communicates/builds relationships with community partners, key stakeholders, and volunteers.
  • Liaising with the surrounding community to network with local businesses, becoming aware of job opportunities, and gathering knowledge about what employers are looking for.
  • Maintains relationships with NYC Department of Education schools in geographical area for possible future referrals.

Blended Service Model

  • Work closely with AHRCNYC’s Clinical department, Recreation department and Staff Training; to ensure a holistic, person-centered experience for both people supported and staff.
  • Knowledge of multiple OPWDD, DOH, NYC and NYS funded programs. Including eligibility, billing and compliance related requirements
  • Maintain ongoing working relationships with various funding sources (ACCES-VR, OPWDD, DYCD, DOL, DSBS, NYC Dept. of M.H., M.R., and A.S.)
  • Help maintain all reporting requirements for grant funded resources and work with internal grant writers, to help support additional funding for a blended service model.
  • Knowledge of various internal documentation and compliance processes

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years relevant experience or Associates degree and five years of relevant experience.
  • A track record of supervising and developing staff to achieve tangible professional outcomes.
  • Knowledge of Person-Centered planning, and knowledge of all applicable regulations, needed.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with family members, program staff and external professional staff, as demonstrated excellence in listening and writing skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a high autonomy/high accountability environment.
  • Must have solid organizational, multi-tasking and delegation skills, as well as ability to initiate and follow through independently on a variety of program issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions, show sound judgment in setting of priorities, address potential operational issues, and handle and/or diffuse time-sensitive and/or stressful situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
