Automotive Technician - 20028229
(230002CP)- This position works under direction and requires thorough knowledge of auto mechanics with automotive service excellence certification in at least four areas, two of which must be engine repair and engine performance.
- Performs major overhauls or repairs of complex automotive problems of vehicle fleet and heavy equipment, repair, rebuilds or replaces minor and major parts (e.g., electrical system components, alternators, water or fuel pumps, clutches)
- Performs tune-ups and preventive maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment, mechanic work (e.g., body repair, replaces tires, cleans or replaces fuel or diesel injectors)
- Positions performing installation, maintenance or repair of appliances using CFC's or HCFC's (e.g., air conditioning and refrigerator equipment) or the disposal of those appliances
- Under general direction, leads team of inmates in performing minor and major overhauls or repairs of institution vehicles and equipment
- Assists inmate mechanics in performing diagnostics and resolving mechanical problems
- Inspects completed work and ensure compliance with procedures and safety practices
- Maintains the security and control of garage ( e.g., tools, chemicals, flammables, caustics)
- Trains and oversees inmates
- Makes periodic checks for safety/fire hazards
- Forwards suggestions to supervisor
- Keeps records of repairs and maintenance performed: obtains prices and orders/picks up parts
- Responsible for accountability of inventory including fuel, parts and supplies
- Submits monthly fuel reports to supervisor for review and submits gas disbursement tickets of fuel and other fluids and vehicle maintenance repair forms to business office for computer entry
- Enters information into electronic Fleet Manager System
- Operates equipment to remove snow and ice from institution parking lots, sidewalks and roads
- Cleans vehicles and equipment
- Mows grass
- Makes road service calls to start or retrieve disabled vehicles
- Lifts up to 75 lbs and uses limbs/fingers to perform manual functions
- Attends meetings, trainings and conferences
- May give presentations and conduct training
- Responds both verbally and in writing to questions and concerns
- Works on special projects and/or committees as assigned
