Summary:

The Assistant Director of Investigations will serve as the primary investigator for all student conduct cases when referrals are made to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards. This position will conduct prompt, equitable, and impartial investigations (student conduct and sexual misconduct outside the jurisdiction of Title IX) by identifying and interviewing all relevant and involved parties; identifying, gathering, and assessing information germane to the investigation; determining and applying necessary policies; serving as the lead factfinder; and managing all written and verbal communications pertaining to investigations. Moreover, the Assistant Director of Investigations will produce comprehensive reports and appropriate correspondence regarding the investigation and will also assist with post investigation follow-up with affected students and/or employees/departments/divisions. The Assistant Director of Investigations will also assist and serve as a Student Conduct Administrator and aid in executing the student conduct process, which includes the implementation of all policies, procedures, programs, and services designed to foster a community that respects individuals and supports community values. The Student Conduct Assistant Director of Investigations will actively work to promote student responsibility, civility, and respect through effective administration of the student conduct process, educational programming, and the enforcement of relevant university policies. In addition, this position will work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administrators to address behavior-related issues in and out of the classroom. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Educational Leadership, or related field. At least two years of recent, substantive work experience conducting investigations in a higher education setting, managing confidential information, conducting training, and independently and efficiently managing a significant caseload. Experience in and awareness of the sensitivity required when interacting with and addressing the needs of a diverse community on sensitive issues. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Tact, maturity, and strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Proven ability to assess credibility of evidence and investigate new information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and exemplary attention to detail.
  • Proven competency in Microsoft software, and Excel.
  • Proven ability to foster positive interactions and communicate with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and external community members.
  • Experience working with key stakeholders, such as parents and outside legal counsel.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, superior judgment and neutrality in highly sensitive situations involving investigations of alleged sexual misconduct, threats, assaults, etc.
  • Knowledge of the federal and state laws pertaining to sex and gender-based discrimination and harassment as they apply to colleges and universities.
  • Understanding of FERPA.
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred:

  • Background and training in conducting sensitive and confidential investigations.
  • Experience with Advocate/Symplicity Software

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
