Job Summary:


The Associate Director of Career Advising is a full-time staff member whose primary responsibilities are to manage career advising, lead supervision of the Assistant Director of Internship Advising and student advising team, lead career development training and workshops for CCLP staff and campus constituencies, provide higher-level career advising for a diverse population of students and alumni and plan and implement career readiness initiatives and events. The Associate Director will collaborate with student groups, faculty, staff, alumni, campus partners, and employers to promote career readiness at Rollins College. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Career & Life Planning.


Career Advising, Training, and Outreach

  • Serve as a lead career advisor and professional development resource for students and alumni by providing one-on-one advising with all phases of career development including assessment, major exploration, career exploration, and industry research, identification of appropriate internship opportunities, job search skill development, and graduate/professional school research and applications.
  • Manage Handshake career advising appointments and Career Studio advising (virtual and in-person) to meet the service demands of students and alumni.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive career readiness programming and resources for students and alumni, including graduate school, internships, and job searches.
  • Develop content, maintain resources, and lead innovative training for CCLP staff, faculty, and campus partners on effective facilitation of career development topics including resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, graduate school exploration and admission, networking, and other career topics.
  • Partner with the Director of Career & Life Planning and campus partners on the development and implementation of career integration initiatives in support of Rollins Gateway.
  • Serve as primary contact and lead in scheduling outreach requests, including classroom visits, student organizations, residence halls programming, and the RCC Liaison Program.
  • Collect, analyze, and report assessment data pertaining to career advising, Career Studio, outreach, and career readiness initiatives.
  • Participate in various local, state, regional, and national organizations to gain industry knowledge and operational best practices, as well as develop new career readiness initiatives.

Supervision

  • Hire, train, supervise, and mentor Assistant Director of Internship Advising in their work related to internship program management, design of academic internship policies and procedures, and collaboration initiatives aimed at increasing student access to quality internship opportunities.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and mentor Graduate Assistants and Career Ambassadors to deliver advising, Career Studio support, and other CCLP services. Primary supervision responsibility of Graduate Assistant, Mental Health Counseling.

Center for Career & Life Planning/Division of Student Affairs

  • Support Gateway programming, strategy, and implementation through cross-departmental collaboration, integration of Gateway language into CCLP programming, and support helping students identify and articulate their Gateway experiences.
  • Enhance competencies around career advising, access, and DEI, and implement new learning into CCLP resources and initiatives.
  • Support Student Affairs initiatives and programs.

  • Possess strong counseling and advising skills; understanding of multiple areas of professional development including career exploration, application and interview processes, job searching, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, and career readiness
  • Strong training, development, and supervision skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, alumni, staff, faculty, and employers
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • High level of maturity, professionalism, and diplomacy
  • Understanding of and familiarity with social media marketing and event promotion
  • Excellent assessment skills including data collection, tabulation, and analysis of programming and career development outcomes
  • Strong technical skills, including software setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences, including traditionally and non-traditionally aged students, parents, employers, faculty, and staff
  • Awareness of legal issues as they pertain to employment practices within the US
  • Understanding of international student population needs and legal issues pertaining to their curricular and optional practical training (OPT and CPT)
  • Ability to provide career advising and support to students and alumni of all genders, races, ethnicity, veteran status, and backgrounds
  • Service excellence focus with a commitment to meeting the unique needs of students, alumni employers, colleagues, and other stakeholders


Qualifications:


Required:

  • A Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, human resources, or related discipline.
  • Three to five years of experience in career counseling, higher education career development, or related setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience supervising professional and/or student staff.
  • Training & development experience.


Work Environment:


  • Campus-based position working in an office and field environment.
  • Work requires visual strain and the use of a computer.
  • Must be willing to work occasional nights and weekends.
