Accountant

Corpus Christi Medical Center is a 631- bed Health Care System including Bay Area, Doctors Regional, The Heart Hospital, Northwest Regional, Bayview Behavioral Hospital, Northshore Emergency Center, Northwest Behavioral Health Center and Radiation Oncology at Corpus Christi Cancer Center.

What you will do in this role:

  • Assists with completion of all month-end close financial reporting processes, which include posting journal entries in the appropriate accounting periods & general ledger accounts.
  • Prepares and maintains monthly-prepaid schedules, which involves service contract review for accuracy.
  • Prepares monthly reconciliations for assigned Balance sheet accounts including documentation to support all balances.
  • Ensure proper general ledger coding on a day-to-day basis for non-PO invoices.
  • Ensure payments are issued in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with vendors and provide status updates
  • Works with facility directors to ensure payables are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Assists with detailed monthly actual to budget variance reports to support the department in the review of monthly facility operating performance.
  • Participates in annual budget process, preparing schedules, and researching accounts.
  • Participates in annual facility inventory.
  • Assists with Quarterly SOX reporting and semi-annual Internal Control Checklist.
  • Responds to requests for information from Corporate, Internal Audit, and other internal management.
  • Prepares ad hoc reports as needed by department management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller, Controller or Chief Financial Officer.




What qualifications you will need:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or comparable field required
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience. AP, SOX compliant experience a plus.
  • Must be willing to work at least 1 weekend per month. Must be willing to work 4th to the 9th days of the month even when those dates fall on weekends or holidays.
  • Position must be willing to keep a flexible schedule during busy times and even forego vacation/PTO during inventory, month-end close, and budget planning periods.
  • Candidate must have firm knowledge of the financial accounting process.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel knowledge preferred
  • Previous SOX compliance experience a plus.
  • Business Objects and/or Essbase/Smartview reporting a plus
  • Effective organizational skills including the ability to work independently and consistently to achieve reporting deadlines.
  • Must be willing to work and adapt in an “always improving” environment.
