Summary
The Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program at Iowa State University (ISU) is seeking applicants for an Academic Adviser II. This program is a newly formed interdepartmental undergraduate program in BME within the College of Engineering. The Academic Advisor plays a key role in recruiting, retaining, and enhancing the academic experience of undergraduate students. The Academic Adviser will be responsible for assisting students with scheduling, registration, degree audits and course selection, and referring students to appropriate resources necessary for retention and academic success. Additionally, this position will support recruitment activities such as providing information to prospective students and their parents during individual and group visit days; participating in student orientation sessions; and ensuring proper placement in courses. These activities are critical to the success of this newly formed program. In addition to the above responsibilities, the Academic Adviser position also devises new and more effective approaches to advising students for academic success; plans, develops, and teaches orientation courses; forms and coordinates learning community programs while supervising peer mentors; serves on university, college and program committees; and provides career counseling. While exposure to or experience in health-related areas or engineering is valued, no explicit training in these areas is required.
