Job Description


Under the direction of the Site Administration, to organize and implement quality, inspiring, and engaging dance lessons for students. Collaborating with other arts teachers to plan performances and recruitment, delivering a standards-based curriculum, and proficiency in choreography and design for multiple dance styles are core elements. Assist in school programs and follow General Duties and Responsibilities Guidelines, as required.

Examples of Duties


  • Experience with multiple dance genres is desirable
  • Plans a balanced dance program and organizes daily classes so preparation, instruction, and rehearsal can be accomplished within the allotted time
  • Utilizes varied repertoire, including traditional and contemporary examples, that is appropriate for the ages and demonstrated skill level of performers
  • Evaluates, assesses, and supports high-quality individual student development and performance
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate music, books, costumes, and instructional aids, to enhance learning
  • Meets with other District arts teachers in planning for District arts programs
  • Collaborates with site staff to provide multiple performance opportunities for students to showcase their skills for their peers and parents
  • Implements high quality learning and teaching strategies to inspire best practice
  • Establishes and maintains appropriate expectations for student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during individual practice, group rehearsals, and performances
  • Connects curricular content and assessments to the California Arts Standards
  • Manages responsible use of given budget Classroom Culture:
  • Creates a safe and productive classroom culture that fosters student responsibility for self and equipment
  • Positive relationships are evident, procedures are clear, and the classroom is safe and secure for learning
  • Student and teacher interactions promote a growth mindset and student talents are cultivated
  • All students are welcome and receive an equitable learning opportunity
  • Maintains an organized, clean environment Professional Responsibilities:
  • Participates in staff meetings and committees, as assigned
  • Actively participates in Professional Learning Communities to improve teaching and learning
  • Reflects on instruction and goal setting with assigned Coach/Mentor
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service training provided by the District and/or through self- selected professional development activities
  • Completes all District requests including but not limited to inventory, reporting, communicating with parents and staff and completing contractual obligations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate or higher degree with emphasis in an academic major or minor subject matter fields with the needed courses to meet credential requirements.

Credential(s):
Possession of a valid California Single Subject Dance Teaching Credential or California Single Subject Physical Education Credential issued prior to January 1, 2022, with an English Learner Authorization.

Physical Demands: Sit, stand, reach, look down, turn neck (frequently); walk, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, climb stairs, reach above shoulders (occasionally); kneel, crawl, lay down, use foot controls (infrequently); lift/carry items to 10 pounds (frequently), to 25 pounds (occasionally) and 26 – 90 pounds (students, in emergencies); grasp/manipulate materials and supplies (frequently); use seeing, hearing and speaking (continuously).

Working Conditions: Indoor classrooms, outdoor school yard and grounds. Exposure to: student and playground noise, communicable diseases, unruly students, air conditioning, seasonal temperatures, dust, wind, pesticides and possible smog.
